WHAT IS MUSIC?

Music is the art of combining and expressing sounds.

WHAT FOUR THINGS ARE NEEDED FOR SOMETHING TO BE CALLED MUSIC?

Melody, Rhythm, Harmony, and Form.

WHAT IS MELODY?

A succession of agreeable sounds produce melody.

WHAT IS HARMONY?

Sounds so combined that they are heard simultaneously produce harmony.

WHAT IS A SCALE?

A scale is a combination of half-steps and whole-steps.

 

A major scale is made out of a whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half pattern.

 

A minor scale is made out a whole, half, whole, whole, whole, whole, half pattern.

WHAT IS A KEY?

A key is the number of sharps or flats in a scale. A key is derived from a scale, and the whole, whole, half pattern.

WHAT ARE THE DIATONIC CHORDS?

The diatonic chords are chords built on each note of a scale.

WHAT ARE THE PRIMARY CHORDS?

The primary chords are the one, four and five (five seventh) chords.
